Como boss Cesc Fabregas takes blame for Feyenoord lost

Serie A side Como took on Feyenoord in their second Champions League game today but the tie ended in a 3-2 defeat.

The lakeside club did take the lead in the first half but then conceded twice. In the second half, Feyenoord scored again, leaving Tasos Douvikasโ€™ stoppage time goal simply as a late consolation.

The Dutch side were probably the better team on the day, as Como didnโ€™t create as much as theyโ€™d have liked.

Fabregas spoke to the press about the tie and took the blame for the defeat.

He said: โ€“ via TMW: โ€œIndividual errors or my own? No, letโ€™s leave the lads alone. These things happen, it changes the world whether we play at home or away, weโ€™re in the second game of our Champions League history. Now, relax, Serie A is the most important thing for us. It gives us the opportunity to stay together here.โ€

He also urged everyone to focus on the upcoming game against Fiorentina.

When asked about whether the result is down to inexperience, he said: โ€œNo, I didnโ€™t say that. However, they are a strong team, especially at home. Like us against Leipzig. I have pretty clear ideas, they are used to winning and going strong.โ€

โ€œAway from home, things change, we have to learn to manage this. But I donโ€™t believe much in
inexperience. Level or no level, I do.โ€

โ€œMaybe in the next match someone will be stronger and not lose the ball. Some take three months, or three years. Put all the blame and the mistakes on me. Leave the lads alone and focus on Fiorentina, which is the most important thing.โ€

More than inexperience, it was a case of Como having to rotate and adapt to playing three games a week. They had a huge game against Roma at the weekend and the tiredness was clear to see.ย

But it is a learning curve which will only make the side better in the longer run.
