Lazio have exited the Europa League at the quarterfinals stage, losing on penalties to relatively unfancied Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt 3-2 on penalties after the tie had ended 3-3 on aggregate. The club had been prioritising this competition, having topped the league stage.
After the defeat, midfielder Matteo Guendouzi was spotted in a rage in the tunnel, having a go at his own teammates and team staff. The former Arsenal midfielder did convert his penalty as did Boulaye Dia, but Taty Castellanos, Tijjani Noslin and Liam Tchaouna all missed. Castellanos and Noslin had interestingly scored in the game before that.
Post the game, the Frenchman was caught by the cameras telling his teammates, “We have to show our b****!” as reported by CDS (via Sky Sports). The assistant manager had to step in to calm him down reportedly. The goal for Lazio now is to chase Champions League qualification through Serie A. Currently they are 6th in the league, 3 points behind Juventus in 4th.
