Details behind Atalanta’s move for Everton’s Ben Godfrey

Serie A side and reigning Europa League champions Atalanta have all but sealed a move for Everton defender Ben Godfrey and details of the transfer have now emerged.

La Gazzetta dello Sport today have stated that Godfrey is seen as a replacement for Giorgio Scalvini, who missed the Euros because of an ACL injury that he picked up at the end of the 2023/24 season.

La Dea acted quickly in the saga and moved to sign the Englishman in the last 48 hours. The expectation is that the Englishman will be in Bergamo today to undergo a medical and then, he will sign his contract with the Bergamischi.

The expectation is that Godfrey would not be a first-team regular as the current back three is already pretty much nailed on. The Englishman will have to learn Gian Piero Gasperini’s ideas and over time, he could become a regular presence at the back.

The defender will sign a five-year deal with La Dea, who have agreed to pay a fee of €9 million plus a bonus of €1 million to the Toffees.
