Manchester United interested in Inter’s Nicolo Barella

Nicolo Barella is one of the hottest properties currently on the transfer market. With Inter Milan having reached this season’s Champions League final, and Barella playing a key role, his reputation and admirers have gone up a notch.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United are now in for the Italian midfield maestro. Barella will not be an easy acquisition however. He is 26 years old and still has three years left on his contract with Inter. It will take a big sum, reported to be a minimum of around €80 million to lure the midfielder away from Milan.

Newcastle have already tested the waters, but Barella is not keen on them and wants a club with a bigger chance of quick success. Liverpool are very interested, but with Barella’s price tag they may be unable to afford him.

That leaves Manchester United as a very possible destination for the 26 year old. United are in need of a midfield profile like that of Barella, but the deal will not be straightforward. With United in the middle of a takeover and their owner situation currently up in the air, it could be some time before they are splashing the cash in the transfer market.

Inter are aware that Barella has a high likelihood of leaving this summer, and with some Premier League clubs able to offer him double the salary that he is currently on, it would not be surprising if his future is in England. Chelsea are also said to be interested in the Italian.
